We writers can easily find ourselves lost.

Lost in our project or manuscript. We get so close to our own material that we can no longer decipher up from down.

I know this feeling well. It’s disorienting and discouraging.

This is why I like to come alongside writers as a friend and guide who can kindly lead you out of the tunnel.

I work with independent authors and authors who are already signed by agents or publishing houses. (If you work in-house, you can hire me through Edit Resource here.)

Writing is a lonely job. It has to be this way for a while, but at some point, you will need help. That’s when you can call me.

Editing Service Tiers

Substantive Editing

This is also known as structural or developmental editing. I look at your manuscript as a whole and suggest structural changes such as moving chapters around, cutting large chunks of material, adding personal reflection, anecdotes or data.

I will supply an editorial letter that summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript as well as an annotated manuscript with all of my suggested changes.*

This service is for people who have a fully written draft of their manuscript but need help with the big stuff before hiring a line editor, copy editor, or proofreader (types of editing I don’t offer but can refer you to some excellent people).

Manuscript Review

The review is less hands-on. I read through your manuscript and submit a synopsis of areas of strength, weakness and how you can improve the manuscript overall.

This service does not include an annotated manuscript.

This is a good option for someone who’s spent a lot of time on a manuscript already and feels comfortable making edits with less hands-on direction.

Re-Review

I will review your manuscript again after you’ve had time to make the changes I suggested during your review or substantive edit.

*After first reviewing your manuscript, I may suggest that you spend more time with it before handing it off to me. If this is the case, I can provide several notes to help you as you work through the manuscript again.

Fees

Fees for every tier of service are negotiated based on manuscript length and the level of work required.

Genres

I am currently reviewing manuscripts in the following nonfiction genres: memoir, spiritual growth, self-help, practical living, personal essay collections.
